IQ Durable pigmented inks were formulated to address the weakness in UV stability and water resistance that regular dye based inks do not have, in combination with a pigment that has the UV stability and water resistance, but with attained color vividness of a dye based ink. This formula is a combination of dye / pigment mixture, popular in the wide format market where plotters are used as an output device as well as in desk top publishing. Suitability and compatibility of other paper can also be tested.       Heat Resistance of Colorants: Heat stability was tested on plain paper containing 15 parts pigment / dye combination and 85 parts liquid solution. The printed / coated paper was subjected to 450 degrees Fahrenheit for maximum heat evaluation, and no change was noticed. Ultra Violet Rays / Light Stability: Light or UV stability was tested using the Carbon Arc Fade-O-Meter exposures' hour to first break. IQ Durable pigmented ink jet inks, showed a tremendous UV / light stability and resistance from 250 to 500 hours exposure. Equivalents in exposure to sunlight was at least four (4) to twelve (12) months exposure to sunlight. Like other fastness properties, light stability or UV resistance depends and is affected by; type of binder, film / paper thickness, concentration of colorant, reflectivity of substrate, spectral distribution of light source, temperature and humidity Water Resistance: The water resistance was tested on plain paper printed with the ink made according to the formulation and was submerged into the water batch for a period of time. Loss or gain is evaluated directly as the water resistance property using a reflectance density meter.
